HOME BITTER HOME
Claudia F. Quigua | Colombia/USA | 2019 | 14min
How does looking into the past help us to find out our relationship with our environment/surroundings in the present moment? What happens when the place we called home becomes unbearable to dwell in? And how does urban landscape hold private memory and invisible emotions in the multicultural city? Home Bitter Home is an ethnographic film that attempts to answer these questions through the particular emotional engagement of a Colombian mother with her old neighborhood in Queens, NY, where her lived experiences of Intimate Partner Violence took place.
Claudia Quigua is Colombia-born artist based in NYC and Berlin. Her work expands on the notion of the artist as researcher, filmmaker, producer and media artist. She has a B.F.A in film and video from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and a M.A in Visual and Media Anthropology from Freie Universität Berlin.
